RTV142 Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant
RTV142 is a ready-to-use silicone rubber adhesive sealant. This one-component, room-temperature-vulcanizing (RTV) product cures to a tough, durable, resilient silicone rubber when exposed to atmospheric moisture at room temperature.

Low volatility is one of RTV142’s most important attributes. Methyl alcohol vapors are released from the sealant surface as a by-product of curing. These vapors are low odor and non-corrosive to all metals.

The RTV142 rubber adhesive sealant’s thixotropic paste consistency allows it to be applied to vertical and overhead surfaces without sagging. RTV142 should not be used at thicknesses greater than 6mm (¼ inch), because it uses a moisture cure system. When section depths exceed 6mm (¼ inch), consider our one-component addition cure or two-component silicone rubber compounds as a potential alternative.

RTV142 Potential Applications

The non-corrosiveness to metals and low volatility of RTV142 rubber adhesive sealants, as well as their paste consistency, make them attractive candidates for critical electronic adhesive, gasketing and sealing applications where a high level of volatile, condensable materials cannot be tolerated.

Surface Preparation when using RTV142 Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant

RTV142 sealant will bond to many clean surfaces without the need of primers.

These surfaces typically include various:

  • Metals
  • Glass
  • Ceramic
  • Silicon
  • Rubber
  • Rigid plastics

This silicone rubber adhesive sealant product is also able to form acceptable bonds to organic rubber and some flexible plastics not containing fugitive plasticizers (those that migrate to the surface, impairing adhesion).  An evaluation should be made to determine whether acceptable bond strength develops for each specific application. For difficult-to-bond substrates, use of a primer is suggested.
